Resort Outdoor Furniture: Outdoor Lounge Sets in Woven and Rope Finishes for Resort and Hotel Terraces
Quote resort outdoor lounge sets from a schedule: frames, weave or rope, cushions, fabric, hardware and approvals recorded before a factory prices it.
An outdoor lounge set for a resort or hotel terrace is a group of pieces that are bought together and judged together: sofas or sofa sections, lounge chairs, coffee and side tables, and the cushions that make them usable. Quotations for the same drawing can differ in the places the schedule leaves open: the frame and its finish, the weave or rope, the support under the cushions, the cushions themselves and the hardware.
FBM Furniture works with companies only: Developers · General Contractors · Builders · Commercial Project Owners · Interior Design & Construction Companies · FF&E Solution Providers. Send the terrace plans, the schedule and the quantities, so we can compare the same drawing line by line.
Product scope
- Outdoor sofas and modular sofa sections for terraces, pool decks and rooftop lounges
- Lounge chairs and armchairs with seat and back cushions
- Coffee tables and side tables that sit with the set
- Ottomans and footstools in the same frame and weave
Sets are specified in woven synthetic rattan, rope, powder-coated aluminium or hardwoods such as teak, alone or in combination. Dining-height furniture and pool loungers come from related production lines; see our pages on outdoor furniture, restaurant outdoor dining chairs and tables and commercial sun loungers and daybeds.
What to specify before requesting quotes
| Schedule field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Item code and quantity | One code per piece, with the pieces in each set and the number of sets per terrace or per outlet. |
| Layout | The terrace plan with each set drawn in position, and any modular arrangement written out piece by piece. |
| Frame | Frame material, section description and finish, with the colour reference, for each item code. |
| Weave, rope or timber | Fibre or rope description, colour and pattern, or timber species and finish, written for the model quoted. |
| Support under the cushions | Woven seat, straps, slings or a slatted deck, as the design shows. |
| Cushions | Filling description, cover construction, outdoor fabric and colour code, closure and how cushions are held in place. |
| Tables | Top material, size, edge and base for coffee and side tables in the set. |
| Hardware and feet | Fasteners and connectors as specified, glides or adjustable feet, and any linking clips for modular sections. |
| Finish | Finish name or code for frame, weave and timber, with an approved sample against each item code. |
| Evidence required | The test or certification the specification requires, with standard and edition, for the materials offered and the destination named. |
| Packing | Assembled or knocked down, how frames and cushions are protected and marked by terrace, and whether cushions ship in separate cartons. |
The table is a checklist. Add a line for anything your project needs that is not listed, such as covers for the off-season, a branded fabric or a fire-retardant cushion requirement set by the specification.
Frames, weave and rope
The frame carries the set and the weave or rope gives it its look. Ask each maker to describe the frame material and section for the exact model, how joints are made and finished, and how the frame is coated. For woven and rope pieces, ask for the fibre or rope description, the colour reference and how the weave is finished at the ends and around the joints, and approve the colour on a finished sample rather than on a loose strand. For a comparison of the main material families, see our guides to aluminium, teak and rope outdoor furniture and synthetic and natural rattan on FBM Sourcing.
Cushions and outdoor fabric
Cushions are one place where quotations for the same frame can differ. Name the outdoor fabric the specification calls for, with its colour code, and ask each maker to describe the filling, the cover construction, the closure and how cushions are held on the frame. Ask whether covers can be removed for cleaning, whether spare covers are quoted, and how cushions are packed so that they arrive in shape. Keep an approved fabric swatch with the order as the reference for repeat orders.
Site conditions: sun, salt, wind and storage
Name the site in the brief: a coastal pool deck, a rooftop lounge and a shaded courtyard ask different things of the same set. Ask each maker how the frame, the hardware, the weave and the fabric it offers are specified for those conditions, and say whether the operator stores cushions or pieces indoors when the terrace is closed. For weight, anchoring and storage questions on exposed sites, see our guide to outdoor furniture for rooftop and coastal high-wind sites. For a hotel project whose outdoor furniture was specified in powder-coated aluminium with marine-grade stainless hardware for a coastal site, see the case study Hotel Mattresses, Wardrobes and Outdoor Furniture for a Florida Hotel.
Modular sets and repeat orders
Modular sofas are ordered as sections, and the sections have to meet when they arrive. Ask each maker to show on its drawing how sections connect and how they are marked, and to quote linking clips or connectors on their own lines. Resorts and hotel groups may add sets in later phases, so ask how a repeat order is matched to the approved sample: frame finish, weave colour, fabric colour code and cushion construction. Write those references into the schedule rather than leaving them in correspondence. For a park project that included lounge seating with cushions alongside teak chairs, tables and benches, see the case study Outdoor Teak Furniture and Park Benches for a U.S. Municipal Park Project.
Rules to name in the specification
The rules that apply to outdoor lounge sets depend on the destination, the building and the materials. Name the requirement in the specification and ask each factory what evidence it can provide for the exact model offered. Two United States provisions are set out below, read from the text on the date shown; your specifier or adviser decides what applies to your project.
- United States, upholstered furniture flammability: 16 CFR Part 1640 sets the standard for the flammability of upholstered furniture by reference to California Technical Bulletin 117-2013 (§ 1640.1), effective 25 June 2021 (§ 1640.2), and requires each manufacturer of a product subject to it to include the statement “Complies with U.S. CPSC requirements for upholstered furniture flammability” on a permanent label (§ 1640.4(b)). The definition of upholstered furniture in § 1640.3(e) covers an article of seating furniture that, among other conditions, “is intended for indoor use”. Whether a given lounge set falls within that definition, for example pieces specified for a covered terrace or a conservatory, is a question for your adviser. We read the part as published in the eCFR, full text as of 1 October 2026.
- United States, wood packaging: under 7 CFR 319.40-3(b), regulated wood packaging material, which § 319.40-1 says includes dunnage, crating, pallets, packing blocks, drums, cases and skids, may be imported under a general permit if it has been treated in accordance with 7 CFR part 305 and carries, in a visible location and preferably on at least two opposite sides, a legible and permanent IPPC-approved mark that includes the ISO two-letter country code, a number assigned to the producer by the national plant protection agency and an abbreviation for the treatment, such as HT or MB. An inspector at the port of first arrival may order the immediate reexport of regulated wood packaging material imported without the mark. We read the sections in the eCFR, full text as of 9 October 2026; see also our reading of ISPM 15 marks on furniture shipments on FBM Sourcing.
- Canada, Australia and New Zealand: see our Canada compliance page and our Australia and New Zealand compliance page for the rules we have read for those markets.
Our United States compliance page explains how we approach the main US rules for furniture.
Samples, approval and acceptance on delivery
Approve a finished sample of a sofa section or lounge chair with its cushions, and a sample of the table top, not a photograph, before bulk production, and record the approval in writing against the item code. Place the samples together so that frame, weave, fabric and table finish are seen as a set. Keep the approved samples as the reference for the bulk order. Our guide to samples, finishes and approvals sets out the sequence. On delivery, check a sample of cartons against the order: item code, finish, weave colour, fabric colour, cushions and quantity of each piece, and note any difference in writing with photographs on the day. Before shipment our own team checks quantities, dimensions, finish, hardware and packing against the signed-off specification, and you receive a QC report with photos and video.

Frequently asked questions
What should an outdoor lounge set specification include?
Give the terrace plan with the set layout, the pieces in each set and their sizes, the frame material and finish, the weave, rope or timber description, the support under the cushions, the cushion filling and outdoor fabric with its colour code, the table tops, the hardware and feet, the finish codes and the packing by terrace.
Why do woven, rope and aluminium lounge quotations differ so much?
They are different materials made in different workshops, and quotations may describe them in different words. Ask every maker to answer the same schedule fields for the same item code, so that frame, weave or rope, cushions and hardware can be read side by side.
Do outdoor lounge cushions fall under the US upholstered furniture rule?
The definition in 16 CFR 1640.3(e) covers seating furniture that, among other conditions, is intended for indoor use. Whether a given set falls within it, for example pieces specified for a covered terrace or a conservatory, is a question for your adviser.
Can lounge sets be ordered in phases or across several resorts?
Yes, if the approved sample, the finish codes and the fabric colour code are kept as the reference for repeat orders. Write them into the schedule so that a later phase receives the same set.
How does FBM Furniture charge for outdoor furniture?
For suppliers you nominate, we charge a 5% commission; for products we source for you, we quote a direct price. Our own team performs one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment, and your team is welcome to attend.
