A complete furniture package for a new-build villa project in the United Kingdom

Custom sofas including a six-metre sectional, lounge and dining seating, marble and glass-top tables, TV cabinets and sideboards, selected in China with the client team, checked once after production and shipped in two 40HQ containers.

Project overview

One villa, furnished as a single package

This project was a new-build villa in the United Kingdom that needed the whole house furnished at once. Several pieces could not be bought off the shelf: a sectional sofa about six metres long made to fit its room, upholstered seating in colours picked from swatches, and stone- and glass-topped tables that had to match from one living space to the next. We handled it as one package from China and shipped it in two 40HQ containers.

The client team came to China for an accompanied selection trip. We went through furniture markets and factory showrooms together, held fabric swatches against colour samples there and then, and checked sizes against the villa’s floor plan, so the complete furniture schedule was settled before the trip ended.

How the order ran

How the villa package came together

01

Selection trip in China

The client team visited showrooms and markets with us, compared swatches and samples in person and checked every size against the floor plan until the furniture schedule was complete.

02

Orders placed with specialist workshops

Sofas and seating went to an upholstery workshop; casegoods factories took the sideboards, the TV cabinets and the stone-topped tables. Each item was confirmed against its fabric code, stone and glass specification and custom size, and production was timed so everything could be loaded together.

03

One inspection after production

When production was complete, our own team inspected every piece once before packing and shipment. The sectional was taped at 598 cm, within the 2 cm tolerance agreed with the client for a handmade piece; colours were compared with the swatches, frames and legs checked for stability, and stone and glass tops checked for damage. Measurement photos went to the client. Clients are welcome to join this inspection.

04

Packed and loaded, 2 x 40HQ

Sofas were wrapped in film with reinforced corners, stone and glass tops laid flat in cartons lined with foam, and every chair boxed with its legs protected. We checked the containers, stacked and braced the cartons and sealed both containers under our supervision.

After shipment

Arrival on site

The loading photos and the packing list went with the shipping documents, so the villa team could tick items off as they came out of the containers. Any question during transit went to our team, and we took it up with the workshop concerned.

More projects are listed on our case studies page, and the way we run an order from list to container is set out on our how we work page.
