A mixed villa furniture package for a project in the United States

Dining, bedroom and living room furniture, plus furniture hardware and decorative pieces, picked from showrooms in Guangdong, checked once bulk production was done and shipped to the United States in 2014.

Project overview

Many rooms, many suppliers, one shipment

In 2014 we put together a furniture package for a villa in the United States, delivered as one project order. It covered the dining room (a marble dining table with upholstered chairs), the bedrooms (beds and bedroom furniture), the living areas (sofas, lounge chairs and occasional pieces), plus furniture hardware and a number of decorative, breakable accessories. The pieces were chosen from furniture showrooms and supplier channels in Guangdong.

A villa package like this is not bought from one catalogue. Each room draws on a different showroom or workshop, and every piece has its own size, finish and packing needs. Our job was to turn the room-by-room wish list into a clear order, keep track of each supplier, check the goods once they were finished, and see the whole package into the container.

The package, area by area

Three groups of furniture, one order

The list was grouped by room so each group had its own points to confirm.

01

01 · Dining room

Materials and finish. Stone top and upholstered seating were chosen together so the set would look consistent; surface, colour and packing risk were the points to watch on the stone.

Quantity. Our record for this order does not list quantities per item.

02

02 · Bedrooms and living areas

Materials and finish. Sizes and visible finish were confirmed for each bedroom and living room piece before the order went ahead; upholstery colour and surface condition were reviewed at the inspection.

Quantity. No per-line count is recorded; these pieces made up most of the shipment by volume.

03

03 · Hardware and accessories

Materials and finish. Small hardware was packed with the furniture it belonged to, and breakable accessories were given export packing of their own.

Quantity. Shipped with the furniture in the same load.

How the order ran

From showroom visits to a loaded container

01

Room list turned into an order

We broke the brief into product type, dimensions, visible finish, material, packing and inspection points, so every showroom option could be judged against the same list.

02

Showroom selection and supplier comparison

Options were compared in Guangdong showrooms on appearance, material, construction, supplier response and readiness for export, then confirmed with model references, quantities, sizes and colours.

03

One inspection after bulk production

Once bulk production was complete, our own team inspected the goods once before shipment: dimensions, visible finish, upholstery, panel condition, hardware and packing. Clients are welcome to join this inspection.

04

Loading and handover

Packed goods were checked as they went into the container, with the loading recorded before it left for the United States.

After shipment

After the goods left China

We stayed the single China-side contact for the order after shipment, holding the selection records, inspection notes and shipping documents in one file so any question on arrival could be traced to the right supplier.

How we handle multi-room packages is set out on our how we work page, and more completed orders are in our case studies.
